About

Valeria Glibiciuc (b. 2002) is a Moldovan visual artist currently based in the Netherlands, where she is pursuing her studies at the Minerva Academy of Art in Groningen.
Valeria Glibiciuc’s practice is rooted in painting, but she approaches the medium as an open and experimental space. Growing up in a family of artists and learning traditional icon painting from her father, a church iconographer, she developed an early understanding of colour, material, composition and the relationship between an artwork and the space around it.
Working with him on church murals also gave her a direct experience of large-scale painting and the physical process of creating within architectural spaces. Rather than starting with a fixed image or conclusion, she often follows what happens on the surface of the painting, responding to colours, forms and unexpected moments as they emerge.
At the centre of her practice is an interest in positivity, hope and the emotional experience of painting. In a world that can feel increasingly chaotic and uncertain, she is interested in how art can create a moment of pause, openness and light. Her paintings invite viewers to experience rather than simply interpret, leaving space for personal associations, memories and emotions.
For Valeria, painting is both an exploration and a way of communicating. It is a process of discovering what an image can become, while creating something that can offer the viewer a sense of connection, hope and possibility.
